State joint-stock company Latvijas Dzelzceļš (Latvian Railway - LDz) is one of the oldest railway companies in the Baltic states and one of the largest companies in Latvia. This year LDz are celebrating 100th year anniversary.Contributing to the growth of the national economy for 100 years, it provides the rail infrastructure for an immense volume of freight and passenger transport. The mission of LDz is to provide the management of railway infrastructure and logistics services to benefit the national economy of Latvia and the vision is to become the leader of the Baltic transport industry, regional logistics centre of excellence – a modern, efficient and environmentally-friendly group of infrastructure and logistics companies.

Latvian Railway is a State Joint-Stock Company, and 100% of its capital shares are owned by the state - Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Latvia. Latvian Railway is the only company managing the public railway infrastructure in Latvia. Latvian Railway is the governing company of Latvian Railway Group. The Group includes six subsidiaries operating in provision of freight traffic, rolling stock modernization and maintenance, logistics solutions, freight and infrastructure security services. In order to offer competitive international freight services, a subsidiary LDZ Loģistika was established, which is working on the development of freight forwarding on the China-Latvia-Scandinavia route.

Latvian railway is the most reliable and fastest way to the ice-free ports of the Baltic Sea - Riga, Ventspils and Liepāja, through which goods can be shipped on to the key European consumer markets, primarily the Nordic countries. The priority goals are to strengthen cooperation with neighbouring railways and to improve the collaboration in alternative directions – shipments between China and Europe. As a prove serves last year concluded Strategic Cooperation Framework agreement between the Administrative Committee of Xi`an International Trade and Logistics Park and Latvian Railway.
